[Wine] Do I need IkernelUpdate.exe for Wine 1.3.8?

First, hello to all! I'm new to this forum and I'm glad to be here.  I haven't really used Wine very much because I haven't had much success with it in the past, most likely due to the fact I haven't really done my "homework".  

Currently, I'm wanting to install "American McGee's Alice" using Wine in Ubuntu. I figure it should give me some more experience with Wine and I don't really have the space on my XP HDD.  

I was reading the Install How-To for this game and came across the part that says I need to install IkernelUpdate.exe.  Since this is an older game and I don't know which version of Wine the How-To was written for, I was wondering if I still needed to do this step for my version of Wine, 1.3.8.
