thats not what is needed... he just needs to set up a normal Windows program file association within Wine, so when he does say... wine myfile.ext  wine will open the right program and open the file myfile.ext.  There needs to be a FAQ entry on how to make those, but I haven't felt like writing it up.  Its very similar to the link you gave when using winebrowser though, just substitute in the real program instead of winebrowser.
