_snd_mixahead I know you said you tried it, but you should try various values.
I finally managed to get mine to work, but it was more of a "oh, hey, it works"
than anything else.

As for EAX, WINE needs special drivers to make use of any EAX that may exist in
Linux. I'm unsure if EAX is even supported in Linux (check
opensource.creative.com) if it is, then perhaps someone should start working on
providing EAX support for WINE.

Wine seems to report the screen width to be 2 wider than it actually is. What
you need to do is locate the files "1024_*" and in that directory make a
symlink to them with the same name, only 1026 instead of 1024... I may be wrong
on the exact number, but you should be able to find the value if you start
Half-Life with the -console option (to Half-Life not wine, so "wine hl.exe --
-console") this will put up a console while you're waiting to start up, and you
can read the name of the files right off of there.

Check the Jargon File for "link farm" I read about it a couple days ago, but
it's exactly what you're talking about. WINE already stores .INI's in your
~/.wine directory, so you don't have much to worry about there, but there are
other files touched. Anyways the Jargon File might give you some information
to help.
