Maybe so, but it looks obviously incorrect. Not everything
that seems to fix problems is a real fix. You maybe hiding
a bigger issue. The fix as you sent it can't be right, but
you maybe on to something. Someone knowledgable in the area
should express a more informed opinion.

Hi guys,
One of the action items decided on at wineconf was to set up an IRC
channel for Wine developers. This channel now exists and is
#winehackers. Key points to be aware of are:
* It's on freenode
* It is for developers only, user tech support (how do i run
counterstrike?) etc should be/will be bounced to #winehq
* There are a lot of ops. This is intentional. Often on #winehq there are
problems caused by users but there are no ops around (only like 3 guys
have op access to it). Me (TD), Mike McCormack (mike_m) and Francois
Gouget (fgouget) have the ability to add people to the auto-op list
through virtue of being the first guys into the channel.
* The channel is modelled after #gnome-hackers on gimpnet, which has been
a great success with buy-in from even their busiest, most core hackers
(hint hint alexandre :)
* All wine hackers are welcome, this most explicitly includes WineX dudes
* No topic is offtopic.
Have fun! I'll submit a patch to add mention of it to the WineHQ website,
but #gnome-hackers grew to a huge number of people just through word of
mouth so there's no real hurry. Tell your friends, rescue budding wine
hackers from the helpdesk that is #winehq etc. It's a resource that is
there to be used, so use it.
thanks -mike
Hi,
I searched archives, but not found solution for my problem.
I try to run a EMS QuickDesk application on wine, everything going fine
until i wan't to connect to database. In this moment on QD displays
animation FindFolder. That animation is launch by SendMessage API call
and it in a dll resource shell32.dll i think.
How can i run this prog?.
On testing purposes i make a simple delphi prog, you can download it
from http://eclsoft.no-ip.com/project.exe.gz
Help me, please.

Hi all,
I have sent the Telux Wine presentation slides to Jeremy Newman so he
can put them on the winehq site. Feel free to use them (and change them)
for similar presentations, but please give me some sort of credit for them.

Hi All,
I've put together a little patch to allow SystemParametersInfoA to
read an actual registry value for SPI_GETGRADIENTCAPTIONS
instead of the default 'false' that was returned all the time
(got tired of seeing those fixmes).
I based the registry information off of this page:
http://212.203.14.81/virtualp/html/ui_tips.html
How does this patch look? It's the first i've put together for Wine
(so be easy ;). I will continue to flesh out the remaining UI settings
(at least those that apply in all versions of windows (9x,nt,2000,xp)
if there is interest and i'm on the right path here. The only thing i
can think of us doing is reading these values from the Window
Manager instead of our own registry values. Are there standard
ways of detecting this or is it just best left in the registry?
I have included the patch as well as the Reg Key for these settings
(with gradient captions disabled by default).

The call to GetBitmapDimensionEx() and the use of the returned size as
the x and y offset for the BitBlt in controls/static.c function
STATIC_PaintBitmapfn (around line 576) looks incorrect to me. Does
anyone have an idea what the purpose of that code could be?
Gé van Geldorp.
1 week ago, i posted a msg (subject: 16bit app calls wineps.drv, but wine has
wineps.dll) in the ml reporting a run-time error 482: Printer Error with a 16
bit app. Weel, that report is not rappresentative of the problem, it seems more
complicated than i tought.
At MSDN, i found:
Printer error (Error 482)
There is some problem that prevents printing. This error has the following
causes and solutions:
* You don't have a printer installed from the Windows Control Panel.
Open the Control Panel, double-click the Printers icon, and choose Add
Printer to install a printer.
* Your printer isn't online.
Physically switch the printer online.
* Your printer is jammed or out of paper.
Physically correct the problem.
* You tried to print a form to a printer that can accept only text.
Switch to an installed printer that can print graphics.
In windows, all is OK with all type of printer.
After 2 weeks of attempts, i understood i'm unable to find the origin of the
problem and a possible resolution. So, hoping you can help me, i did a snapshot
of my wine configuration including the non-working app and the natives dll
needed to run it (no problem of dependences: they should be ok). The snapshot is
not very big (~7mb), and it's a simple copy of .wine dir with a testapp script
(cd ..., WINEDLLOVERRIDES=... wine app.exe) to immediately run the
fucking/non-working app. So, a backup of your .wine dir is needed. Weel, there's
also the problem of trust: a new non-root user is OK =)
My interest in this stupid business app is only to convert my father to linux,
but if you can help me, a donation to the wine project is CERTAIN!
Here the easy instruction:
NB: Use a new non-root user for trust, or at least # mv .wine winebak
1 - Download to your home http://digilander.libero.it/ceztko/testapp.tar.gz
3 - # tar xvzf testapp.tar.gz
4 - # ./testapp
The error message i get is this: run-time error '482': Printer Error (
http://digilander.libero.it/ceztko/snapshot-err.png )
Instead, it should be like this
http://digilander.libero.it/ceztko/screenshot-ok.png .
I'm unable to understand if is a my mis-configuration or a bug in wine (and
maybe this snapshot is not weel configured anyway). But, after 2 weeks of
attempts without results, using different printer configurations FROM SCRATCH
(cups, file, original windows printer driver, ..), i'm almost sure this is a
bug, or a sort of...
Thanks for your help!
Hallo,
when is the webcast supposed to start today?
Any chance to get non-choppy sound, even perhaps at the expense of no video
stream?
If we have a video stream, can the camera OSD perhaps be disables?
Any conclusions why the stream yesterday was tagged "non-cachable", perhaps
resulting in the choopy sound due to network latencies?
Bye

No, that's not a solution, that's a workaround. (And it's -X you want.)
Wine should be able to run commandline programs
WITHOUT USING X IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM!
This is a longstanding bug in Wine, and one that periodically
makes my blood boil.
The workaround I've used in the past is to create
a .winetty directory with special settings to use
the tty driver instead of the x driver, but that's
a pain in the ass.

Greetings all!
I just happened to run an installer with Wine and I forgot to trap it
inside a desktop, and to my surprise, it did NOT put a big blank window
up front, so I was able to use it normally. I had not used one of these
in a while, so I tried a couple others, and they worked normally too
(outside of desktop mode). Looking back through the logs, I think this
patch may have fixed that issue, at least for a lot of cases:
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-cvs/2003/12/0156.html
I couldn't see any discussion of this in here, so I was wondering if
anyone else has seen similar results. I also tried several full-screen
games that historically gave me keyboard focus trouble, and every one of
them got keyboard input. I have not changed anything with my window
manager, and reversing that patch causes the problem to return.
So, is this working now for anyone else? Did I overlook the discussion?
Alex
